Cubs – We’ve had a busy year so far!

It has been a while since we posted updates to the site, so we thought we would bring you up to date with some of the things that the Cubs have been doing this year.  We can’t list everything we have done this year, but these are the highlights.  Check out the Cubs Galary for more photos!

DSC_2633We visited Whisby Nature Park to track down some of the winter wildlife making it’s home in Lincolnshire.  This included huddling up in the Bird Hide for a spot of ‘twitching’.

DSCF2236It’s not all hard work being a Cub Scout!  In March we visited PlayZone in Lincoln.  The only down side to the evening was that adults were not allowed on the giant slide!

DSC_2744April saw us visit the excellent climbing wall at Sudbrooke.  The Cubs spent the evening climbing up and down the high wall and across the bouldering wall.  We rounded off the evening with a walk around the grounds.

DSC_2848Over a weekend in May, Chief Scout Bear Grylls took to the skies in his helicopter to visit as many scouts as possible.  This was Bear In The Air.  Saxilby Group headed off to Burghley House for their encounter with Bear.  What a day it was!  So many activities going on, including archery, caving, shooting, zorbing, carting, rope making, arts and crafts and even the opportunity to jump off a tower!

May also saw our first Cub Camp of the year at Walesby Forest.  Joined by the Explorers, Scouts and for the first time, the Beavers a great weekend was had by all.

DSC_3004Maggots at the ready!  A few fishy tales were born when we headed off for a spot of fishing.  Judging by the size of some of the fish our Cubs caught, no tall tales were necessary!

DSC_3464Too cold for camping in October?  Not for Saxilby scouting group it isn’t!  We had our second camp of the year at Walesby Forest on what turned out to be a beautiful October weekend.  Pioneering, shelter building, kite making, tent skills, wide games and the every popular camp fire sing-a-long were a great way to end the summer.

DSC_3543Also in October we were invited to visit the amazing volunteer fire fighters at Saxilby Fire Station.  The cubs had a chance to question the fire fighters, try out the fire hoses, watch a demonstration of some of the cutting equipment and probably the most exciting part, sit in the fire engine and wake up the whole of Saxilby testing the sirens!

DSC_3562Rounding off a busy October, the Cubs visited St Botolph’s Church.  They were give a tour of the church and a chance to learn about it’s history.  Oh, and they also got to try out the bells!  Yes, that’s what that noise was!

More to come!

So, there are just some of the highlights of the year.  This is not all we have done in 2015, it has been a busy year!  With two months left of the year, there is more to come!
